We'd like to be able to have a few options per role (sup, artist, client..) as to what these profile can and cannot do (access to annotation tools, access to some specific pages...).

yes, I agree with that. For example, even artists want to do some drawovers to bring accessible notes to the leads/supervisors.
This could also be an option in the admin section.
