I have to agree with the original post. We have our whole production on kitsu, excepting the schedule management for the same reason, which is a pain because we have to replicate the projects structure on a third party software but it's still necessary.
Depending on the project, sometimes you need to create the schedule for a single person, or you need to create the schedule for a whole project just thinking on the roles instead of individuals, and sometimes, if the studio is big enough, you need to arrange the schedule by departments, which is the way you can do it now on kitsu.
I agree on small-mid sized teams not being able to handle the schedule as it is right now, because it feels a bit arbitrary in the sense that you can edit a task duration here but not here, and here you can only move it, then the main schedule shows different duration of the task compared to the project based schedule, etc.
It'd be ideal to have the ability to edit all schedules in the same way, for consistency even. In the issue you mention about needing to match the estimation number, the way it's done is by changing the estimation part based on the schedule and back.

Nacho Diaz: Our biggest problem is that we have two different roles who does schedules:
- Main prod managers: they want the rough dates where a department starts and stops
- Prod managers: they want to track precisely each tasks
I think that what would help is if you list precisely the features that would help you for your use case. We have feedbacks from other studios but it would add inputs to our thinking

Frank Rousseau:
In the end, all needed to make it usable and lightweight and compatible with most uses (IMO) would be:
- Team schedule having default bars for the tasks an artist is assigned to, so that we aren't forced to manually set dates for the task in order for it to appear. In jira you create a default schedule bar (7 days) just by clicking on the schedule if a task doesn't have it.
- To be able to move the bar sideways in the graph. (This is already implemented)
- Additionally, being able to grab the sides of the bars to expand or contract the timespan of a task, same as editing the length of a strip on a video editor. This action would seamlessly & automatically update start & due dates for the task.
It's mostly the same as we have now, just a bit more interactive so I don't think it'd worsen the experience for any kind of users

Nacho Diaz: Ok, we are very busy at the moment, but we will see what we can do. Something I would like to add is the list of unassigned tasks on the right to allow to drag and drop them directly on someone ot assign them.

Hello Frank Rousseau!
We also suffer from this on the Team Schedule page.
Intuitive thing for us to manage schedule is to go into the graph and tweak the bars there.
Right now it's a bit cumbersome having to go into the task type (i.e. Layout) and setting Start Date and Estimation/Due date manually for each task, in order to see them displayed on the graph later.
What we expect is for it to work the other way around. Setting the bars and seeing the start & due dates being modified on the fly
independently
.Is there any chance of this being reviewed?

It's because the dates are tied to estimations (bidding). It can become messy if estimation doesn't match the dates.

Frank Rousseau:
Yeah but we still can edit each task's start/due date if we navigate to the certain screen.
I feel your awareness but I got the actual feedback from a new studio I'm involved currently and lack of this feature is a big turn off for the entire Team Schedule section (they are using a 3rd party one for Gantt operations).
My raw guess is that this may be a problem in general for similar studios (~20 of users) - Kitsu's current planning features are a bit rough to use in daily basis.

Frank Rousseau: And I really want your software to shine brighter because Kitsu is awesome!
